HD format used to capture content -
All HD content is captured from either original HDCAM or HDCAM SR tapes using the Apple ProRes HQ codec on a Final Cut Pro edit suite, capture card is a Kona 3. Clips are available in Uncompressed 10bit HD format by email request, delivery will be delayed due to the time it takes to re-capture the clip from tape.
Interlaced / Progressive -
Each clip is captured in its original format, and delivered in its original "Field Dominance" being Interlaced or Progressive, for example if a clip was captured at 29.97fps Progressive, it will be delivered as Progressive, even if the frame size has be modified from 1920x1080 to 864x486,
Frame Rates -
Quite often footage is shot at a frame rate of 60fps or 50fps, when the footage is captured it will be played out of the tape deck as 30fps or 25fps giving the slow motion look, this is done by the tape machine and not software, when you preview a clip you will see a "Frame Rate" information field on the right of the page, this field displays what the original camera frame rate was set to, so the frame rate down convert table looks like this -
Record frame rate 60fps will be captured and delivered as 30fps
Record frame rate 50fps will be captured and delivered as 25fps
In most cases a clip with the original frame rate of 60fps can be delivered as 25fps if required at short notice at no additional cost, and 50fps can be delivered as 30fps, generally for footage shot in North america is shot as 30fps and 60fps, with footage shot in Europe and Australasia are shot using 50fps and 25fps, favoring a Progressive field dominance with a minimum shutter angle of 50.
